My family is looking to send a thank you plant to a lady who has helped us out a lot lately. She likes to work in the garden so we%26#039;d like to get something she can plant and will last. Have any suggestions for a plant that is in the gift price range and will be able to be planted soon?
Plant suggestion for fall?
How about those amaryllis bulb kits you can buy them at wal-mart in the garden center, the price i saw them at was 5.97$
It is a very beautiful flower like the one in my 360 picture. It is a very very beautiful flower im a 100% sure that the lady will love it. Im positive.
Reply:Variegated prayer plant - indoor potted plant. If outside flowering maple-(shrub) with hibiscus shaped flowers that droop in such colors as burgundy, white, and apricot. They%26#039;re really beautiful and some cangrow to about 4 feet-deciduous--lose their leaves in winter. http://www.sd1new.net/GardenPages/flower...
Reply:Crysanthemum
Snap dragon
Pansies
Gerbera daisy
Check out the garden department at Lowz or HomeyD, they put out seasonal plants. Very kind thank you idea.
Reply:Mums are a wonderful plant that do well indoors and may be planted outdoors once the blooms pass. You can find them in almost any color, other than blue. Some mums do not come back every year. Depending on climate it may be difficult to get them to perennialize.
Another great choice this time of year is the Aster. They come in shades of pink, purple or white. I prefer these as mums are so common and the asters make a great color pop this time of year in perennial beds. They are extremely hardy and easy to grow.
I have also made up garden baskets in the past for gifts. I take netting and gather several varieties of bulbs into the netting and tie them up with ribbon. I then take a pair of gloves and perhaps some bulb food or a small trowel and put the items into a nice basket with a carry handle.
Baskets are really nice to have for gardening too so that makes the gift double duty. I usually pick up a nice assortment of them at Goodwill or Salvation Army for a dollar or two each. Putting your gift in one is always a thoughtful and welcome gesture :)
Reply:Mums would be a good bet. They%26#039;re in bloom now, Fall is a good time to plant, they%26#039;re perennial, many color choices, hardy %26amp; reasonably priced. Consider too an assortment of bulbs such as tulips %26amp; daffodills plus flags. They too are planted in the Fall for Spring bloom. They%26#039;re also perennials and will spread thru the years.
If you wish to spend a bit more, consider a small tree such as blue spruce (slow growing but will get huge unless dwarf) ,dwarf japanese red maple, dwarf fruit tree,...
Reply:Bonsai%26#039;s a good gift along with Amaryllis Nymph , shrubs, tulips, polyantha roses, check this site for more- http://www.gardens4you.co.uk/index.php?p... i hope this helps, thanks!
Reply:For low light try a peace lilly. They are easy to maintain and can be put outside during the warmer months and grow well inside as well.
For high light try a %26quot;Wildcat%26quot; type of orchid. (wildcat is a class of hybrids with many varietals) Easy to maintain and bloom once or twice a year often with 50+ flowers.

I have a plant I got it as a gift and dont know the name of the plant, someone help?
this plant is green leaves with red flowers, the flowers look like tulips, and in the middle of the flower there is a narrow yellow like bud that is very sift, but the texture of the whole plant is very firm, so it looks sort of fake, but really it%26#039;s real.

you might get more help if you had a picture?
I%26#039;m going to guess it%26#039;s a Azalea, but without a picture......

Reply:might be a tulip ... tulips have strap-like leaves but not up a stem (see first pic). A Hibiscus has a woody stem and regular leaves (see second pic). Look at the pics ... if your flower is different give more information
Reply:Could be an anthurium. The live ones even look like plastic.

Should one plant jasmine outside - in shade or sunlight?
depends on what kind of jasmine- the kind you can get in the stores are sometimes not true jasmine. they like full sun and need frost protection.

Can you plant red canna bulb in wi zone 4?? P.S What do they look like?? Got these from a friend?
First time planting bulbs. I received bulbs as a gift. How do you plant??? Water??? Generally take care of??
Can you plant red canna bulb in wi zone 4?? P.S What do they look like?? Got these from a friend?
Yes, you can. But you need to dig them up in the fall, as they will die that far north if left in the ground through the winter.
Plant them about 6 inches down. Most likely your %26quot;bulb%26quot; or corm, will be a long-ish thing, much like a fresh ginger root (which you may know about if you%26#039;re a cook). Lay them horizontally in the ground, with the little growing tips (if there are any), up.
Water after planting. Then, forget about it, unless there is a long drought. They will come up and bloom of their own accord, and they don%26#039;t need any special tending.
In the fall, dig it up. You can even wait until the first frost nips the plant parts above ground. Cut off everything above ground, dig up the root (which should now be a good twice as big as when you planted it - if not more so). Put it in a brown paper bag in a cool dry place for the winter. A cellar, or an attached garage. Someplace that doesn%26#039;t get below freezing.
Replant the following spring a couple weeks before your last frost date.
Reply:What %26quot;Cat%26quot; said. Canna are not winter hardy and because they are rather shallow rooted, it would be rare that they would last a zone-4 winter.
S/he makes a good point about the choice of storage. Don%26#039;t just set them in newspaper or a paper bag in a storage shed or garage where they might freeze.
Good luck. Canna are beautiful flowering plants and will grow 4-6 feet in a season. You might even be able to get them to set out new corms and multiply your plantings.

Need a really nice housewarming plant?
i want to get my friend a plant as a housewarming gift, but i need something nice (aroung 100$) that he can keep in his house. thanks for any help.
Need a really nice housewarming plant?
a large palm, like a parlour palm
they are nice %26amp; very easy to keep
Reply:a ficus tree would be nice. they can last a long time with proper care.
Reply:Bonsai is harder to take care, but Lucky Bamboo and Money Tree are hardy plants.
Examples:
http://www.ftd.com/514/catalog/category....
Shop around, $100 can get you a very nice arrangement of Lucky Bamboo or Money Tree. Good luck!
Reply:I would go to a florist%26#039;s shop/website and see what they have available. If you go into a store, the staff there will be able to assess your needs (light, maintenance needs, etc.) and suggest an appropriate plant.
Peace lilys are nice because they do well in low light, but they are finicky about watering.
Another good option might be a bromelaid (the one with the purplish sort of %26quot;flower%26quot; in the middle and long spiky leaves) since it%26#039;s easy to water and maintain and provides a little color.
There are plants available in all different sizes that will match your spending category.
Reply:A peace lily is a great plant the more you spend the bigger the plant will be. Your price range of around 100$ is a great size at least a 12 inch pot. This plant will let you know when it needs water. The long leaves will start to wilt and with water they will perk right back up.

I gave her a plant last week as a gift, to display in her office. Plant is now dead, should I dump her?
The plant wasn%26#039;t cheap and she killed it in a matter of 7 days. Is this grounds for ending the relationship? She obviously can%26#039;t be trusted.

Maybe she sucks at keeping plants.
But, I will tell you this. If a guy I liked gave me a plant I would worship it. well, maybe not worship but if I saw that it was dying I%26#039;d at least water the darn thing.
I would dump her.

i dont think its a matter of trust. but id suggest not getting her a kitten. maybe something inanimate. like a teddy bear or a picture of something.

How do I keep a rose plant alive?
I just got a rose plant (indoor) as a gift and I live in an apartment so I can%26#039;t plant it outside. Other than watering it what can I do to ensure it stays alive and healthy? and how long can I expect it to live?
How do I keep a rose plant alive?
if u r useing apot get a big enogh one so it can grow andif u plant it in the ground dont comletely burry it but dont let roots or anything stick out and make sure it gets enogh sun light and water
Reply:water it
Reply:it will live as long as you take care of it!..water, sunlight, rose food and plenty of pot space should keep it alive..but also make sure that the air is clean,,,they don%26#039;t like greasy/smoking atmospheres
Reply:Give it plenty of sunlight but not too much.and if it isn%26#039;t thriving well then try and plant it at a friends or close relatives house. But most importantly of all if there is absolutly no other way and the plant is dying then cut the roses and hang them upside down in a cool dry room and when thanksgiving come around use the dried roses as a decoration.

Has anyone bought Tomatoes from Carol Wright Gifts?
I spent $11.85 on 3 tomato plants from Carol Wright Gifts and what I got was 2 half-dead very small plants and a single small stem with a few roots on it. They looked like they ripped some seedlings out of puts, threw them into plastic wrap and let them sit in a warehouse for a week before sending. DO NOT BUY TOMATOES FROM CAROL WRIGHT GIFTS.
Has anyone bought Tomatoes from Carol Wright Gifts?
I had the same probelm last year with some Tomatoe Trees that Carol Wright was selling. They were pure trash! My dad (81) kept begging for them so I sent away for them as a surprise for him. They went straight into the trash !
On a side note I purchased the Patio Princess Tomatoes from Brurpee and they were FANTASTIC ! They arrived huge and strong and well packed. WE got tons of tasty tomtoes from just 3 plants !
Reply:I haven%26#039;t bought anything from Carol Wright. My advice to you is complain and see if they will return your money. Also if you are buying plants through the mail it is always better to pay a little more and use a reputable seed and plant company like Burpee,Jung, or Select Seeds. They usually have some kind of guarantee.
Reply:The best place to check mail order gardening sites is www.davesgarden.com click on garden watchdog then scroll and chose the first letter or company%26#039;s name.
It is a great gardening site and the garden watchdog mail order reviews are very valuable. Tons of reviews from actual users.
I had same problem with Gardeners Choice last year and somehow found davesgarden. What a resource!!!

How to get Pointsettia plant to start blooming again?
Well ill im in highschool and dont know %26quot;to much%26quot; about growing plants, but are biology teacher gave all of us a plant as a christmas gift(2007), and I dont like seeing things like plants die, and currently it has %26quot;red leaves%26quot; but no flowers.
How do I get it to bloom again?
Thanks
How to get Pointsettia plant to start blooming again?
Poinsettia go through a cycle of growth... then rest.
After the %26quot;blooming%26quot; season, %26amp; when the leaves begin to drop, gradually decrease water, allowing the plant to get dry between waterings. Be careful the stem does not begin to shrivel. This is a sign the plant is too stressed and is dying. In a week or two, when the plant has acclimated to this drying process, move it to a cool spot like the basement or a heated garage. You want to keep it at about 60 degrees F.
In late spring, cut the stems back to about 4 inches and repot in a slightly larger container, with new potting soil. Water it well. Place the newly potted plant back into the brightest curtained window you have and once again keep it at a temperature of 65 - 75 degrees F. Water whenever the surface of the soil feels dry.
Watch for new growth. Once new growth appears, begin fertilizing every two weeks with a complete fertilizer. Follow fertilizer label recommendations. After all danger of frost is over, acclimate your plant for growing outdoors %26amp; then plant it or put the potted plant on a patio or porch.
In early July, pinch back each stem by about one inch to encourage a stout, well branched plant. If left unpinched, the poinsettia will grow tall and spindly.
http://gardening.about.com/od/winterinth...
Bring your plant indoors in the fall before it frosts. Beginning in September, keep them in darkness for 14 hours at night %26amp; in light the other part of the day.
%26quot;Put the poinsettias in a closet or other dark room at night for 14 hours – they cannot be exposed to ANY light at all.
During the day you can bring your poinsettia out for lots of sunshine for a maximum of 10 hours. These long, dark nights will encourage the poinsettia bracts to change color creating your very own holiday gift containers with bright Christmas Poinsettias!%26quot;
http://plantsbulbs.suite101.com/article....
Around Thanksgiving, you%26#039;ll notice your plant turning leafy %26amp; the color returning. They can now stay all day in filtered sunlight. Stop fertilizing about December 15th. Keep watering and treat your plant the way you did when you first brought it home in bloom.
P.S. If you live in a warmer climate zone, like Mexico, you can leave it outside all year %26amp; it will color-up naturally.
Good luck!!! Hope this helps.
Reply:Believe it or not.....stick it in the dark!
It is just FINE without the %26#039;red-flowers%26#039; and they are only supposed to %26quot;bloom%26quot; once a year anyway.
(The flowers on that plant ARE leaves...not really flowers)
Make sure its in good soil and damp...not wet...but damp.
Then in November stick it in the closet! Don%26#039;t forget to water it! And bingo! You%26#039;ll have the %26quot;red-flowers%26quot; again.
Keep it away from the cat and dog, it%26#039;s poisonous.
Reply:Poinsettias are a photo period plant. That is they need about 16 to 18 hours of uninterupted total darkness for 6 - 8 weeks. This period is what sets the plant to flower. The red part is actually a leaf (Bract) that surround the small yellow flower head. This is natures way of attracting Bees to the flower, because they are small and the bees can see the red. keep the plant in a warm sunny area and don%26#039;t over water. Give it a dilute amount of Miracle Grow fertilizer, (I like Miracle Grow because it has a few trace elements in it ). If you want the plant to turn red for Christmas, you can start the darkness in the early part of November. Don%26#039;t leave it in the closet for that period as others have said. It still need a little daylight sun to grow. Poinsettias are native to Mexico. Since Mexico is in the southern part of the world It gets longer nights during the summer as the sun works it%26#039;s way to the southern hemisphere increasing the day length. This is why it blooms at Christmas time naturally. The plant grows like a weed in Mexico and was discovered by U.S. Ambassador Joel Poinsett, which gets it name from him. If you don%26#039;t care about when it blossoms stick it out on the deck after all danger of frost has passed. Here is a small Mexican folk lore about a poor small boy who saw a bright star in the sky and followed it until he came to a place with a small infant in a manger. There were kings, and a lot of other people bearing gifts. Being poor he had nothing to offer. As he came closer to the manger he bent down and grabbed a handful of weed and as he laid the in the manger they turned a bright red. This is why the Spanish call them the flower of the night (La Fleur da Noche)
Reply:you will need to put the plant in total darkness for at least twelve hours (fourteen is better) each night for approximately ten weeks.
Reply:place it in the dark for a day or so

Help to identify a house plant! There is something wrong with it!?
My friends gave me a plant as a housewarming gift about a year ago. I was never a flowers/plants person so that being said I have no idea how to take care of it. All I do is water it when remember. Today I looked at it and saw that all lower leaves had something on them. Little rusty-brownish spots that can be removed if you rub them off. I wasn%26#039;t sure what to do so I cut off all leaves that had this stuff on them and cleaned the remaining ones.
The problem is I don%26#039;t even know what kind of plant I have therefore don%26#039;t know how to look up for treatment. Can someone help me! I am attaching image of it:

I do believe your plant is a Dieffenbachia. And sounds like you have spider mites.
If you want to keep your houseplants healthy, you need to be able to identify the problem when their appearance is not quite right. Follow these steps to determine if mites are causing trouble.
1. Take a close look at your plant. You may not see mites, but there are other signs that you can watch for.
2. Keep an eye out for very fine webs on the bottoms of the leaves.
3. Check for the mites themselves if you don%26#039;t see any webs. Use the edge of a sheet of white paper to tap the plant near its base; if mites are present, you will see small, pinpoint sized specks moving around on the paper.
4. Eliminate the mites using a mild insecticide mixed with soapy water.

My sis-in-law in Tampa, Florida gave birth to my niece last night!
I would like to send a plant that will grow as my baby niece grows that they can keep in a pot until August and then perhaps plant in the garden. I would prefer a plant that will flower and can survive the changeable Tampa climate.

Shrubs for christmas gifts for winter planting?
What are some decent native shrubs that i can get my mom for christmas that are ok to be planted in the winter? natives preffered.. woody plants preferred.. medium shrubs, large shrubs, small trees.. located in southeastern pennsylvania. partial to low sun levels.. well drained soils.. currently have viburnums, dogwoods, redbuds, rododendrons, pinus strobus.. surrounding forrest is hickory, poplar, maple.. and plenty of rosa multaflora ;)
Shrubs for christmas gifts for winter planting?
It is often said that Winter and early spring are bad planting times--but not so with most natives. You might try lowbush blueberry-vaccinium augustifolium; highbush blueberry-vaccinium corymbosum; Elderberry-sambucus canadensis; spicebush-lindera benzoin; winterberry (holly) Ilex verticillata or serviceberry-amelanchier arboriea --these are either shrubs or small trees native to your area. (Blueberries, however, would be hard to get right now)
Reply:That%26#039;s not a really good time of the year for planting. Plus it sounds like your mom has a very particular eye for the plants that she has. You may want to consider giving her a dual gift - a gift certificate to her favorite local garden center, and a rock-solid promise to drive her and enjoy the day with her while she chooses something new to tend in her garden.

O Shoot! Will my plant still live?
Hi, everyone. I was given a gift, an amarillys plant a few days ago. I%26#039;ve been really paranoid because I cannot have it die on me, because the person who gave me it will get upset (I think). Today, my little brother tilted it and the stem kind of broke but not totally. Do you think it will still live? I have it propped up but I%26#039;m not really a floral person. Thank you so much for your feedback!
O Shoot! Will my plant still live?
The answer is yes it will live. Now the bad part, will the flower die, probably if too much of the stem is broken. If it does most Amarillisis produce two stems. If not just let it grow and keep the leaves growing and healthy. In the late summer you can stop watering the bulb and let it go dormant for about 6 weeks in the pot. Turn the pot on it%26#039;s side with the bulb in it and put it to sleep. Next year at this time it will flower again
Reply:The plant may be ok. If you can find a similar amaryllis bulb, you might want to substitute the new one for the old one, if it%26#039;s a gift that a friend or family member gave you, and they%26#039;d be unhappy as you mention. I%26#039;m not usually big on deception, but I think at times to make someone feel better, a bit of a fib is an %26quot;ok%26quot; thing to do. Most nurseries have a wide selection of Amaryllis bulbs this time of year, so if I were you, I%26#039;d take it to a nursery and see if I could get a similar variety. No one will be the wiser, and no one%26#039;s feelings will be hurt.
Good luck!
Reply:propping it up is a good thing to do but you need to have something to reallly support it -all the way - as it tries to recover and keep growing.
It depends how broken it is.
It will still live but yolu may not get a full flower or big flower.
However I would still look after it even if you just land up getting leaves and no flowers
Reply:try putting a piece of water proof tape around the stem to keep it together and it may bloom for you. Be careful not to break it anymore th an it is.
Reply:Tie it to a paint stir stick, bamboo stick, metal rod (made for propping plants - wallyworld if you can find the garden department in all the christmass stuff) or whatever you can find around the house poked into the soil.

Will a plant grow back if it's been cut from it's root?
ok , story is some MINDLESS chav%26#039;s late at the weekend, trying to get his/her end off I think decided the front drive/garden, where the cars are parked, thinking it was the local motel. I found a load of rubbish, wrappers.. and 2 eemm %26quot;jonny%26quot; covers in the front garden.. if that wasn%26#039;t bad enough they seemed to have cut a plant, or done something to it. it was basically ripped out, the root was on the ground but the plant itself, was left chucked at the side.. Anyway I planted it back into a pot of compost.. thing is will the roots grow back? if they try the same next weekend a bucket of water is waiting for them as a gift from the plant.. I can%26#039;t believe how mindless people are. I will send the nightclub across the way for a new plant as well I think, but will the planet grow back it%26#039;s roots or not ya think? I couldn%26#039;t put it back as basically there wasn%26#039;t any way it would stand on it%26#039;s own. Thanks in advance.
Will a plant grow back if it%26#039;s been cut from it%26#039;s root?
it should grow back if its put right back into the earth asap- think about this,
every year hundreds and hundreds of people turn up to Kew gardens to take palnt cutting in the slaes they do annually, the plant cuttings they then take home, replant and they then grow.
As long as you really really look after the plant until its a bit kore stable- eg no heavy rain or violent wind etc, you should be fairly safe.
Reply:I hate when people are inconsiderate like that.
The plant might well survive. Keep it watered and be patient. It can take awhile for plants to develop a root system.
Reply:Nice one hope u had rubber gloves on or a Asda bag! lol
Reply:not really if you cut it right down and the roots are intact then it will
Reply:Whether the plant will grow roots is really dependent on the type of plant. Some will, some won%26#039;t. I guess what I would have done is replanted the roots in their original spot and tried the plant top just as you have. That way you would have had 2 shots at it and I%26#039;ve had good luck with just the roots of plants when mishaps have occurred in the transplanting process and such. Good luck and sorry about the neighbors.

I just recieved a lovely Gerbera daisy plant as a gift but in has already started to wilt and become droopy?
This happened in just a day, I set it out on the porch last night so it could get some direct sun in the morning. Around 7:30 in the morning I walked out to see it starting to come back up to life however by mid afternoon it had returned to it%26#039;s wilted state. The soil still seems moist and I have not watered it since I recieved it. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you!
I just recieved a lovely Gerbera daisy plant as a gift but in has already started to wilt and become droopy?
u musta be kidding me. u took a plant from store and put it under direct sun light and asking what is wrong? it is dying from shock, this is what is wrong. u never ever take plants from inside and put them under direct sun for the whole day. u start from shadowy place for some minutes first, then for some hours, then u put it from shadowy place under open sun for a few minutes, then for a few hours and u never ever put house plants under direct sun. never. there re special plants which like open sun, they re rare, gerbera is not the one. and another thing to those who adviced to replant it into another pot - u do not replant into another pots right after bringing a plant to your house. u put it first out of direct sun light for a few days, then to a spot where u intend it to be and wait a few days. a plant is a living thing, it should adapt to a new enviroment. if u start replanting it right away u give it too much shock. sure it might survive, but mostly it won%26#039;t
Reply:water it. Indirect sunlight till it comes back.
Reply:If it was in a store pot, you should transplant it into a new pot, preferable ceramic, about 1 1/2 times as big as the current pot. If a plant becomes root-bound it will die. Also, the pots that plants typically come in do not hold water well.
Reply:If there is foil around your plant take it off as it is sitting in water trapped in the foil. Too much water will kill quicker than not enough. They can take full sun once they are established, they also do not like to be moved once you plant them in the ground. EDIT: Being an all knowing rude person to others will surely make plants grow.

I want to buy a pot plant as a gift?
It must be able to handle a lot of sun and be brightly coloured. Perhaps a native.

Reply:Perhaps a %26quot;potted plant%26quot; would be a more appropriate gift. Go to a local nursery and they will be able to help you select a plant that is native to your area and matches your tastes.
Reply:Native to where?
Reply:Pot plant=Great gift idea!
A nursery, where the staff is friendly, will be able to assist you with your choice. My personal favourite?- The Bougainvillea (sun-loving) because it can take quite abit of neglect but rewards you with brightly coloured showy flowers.

HOUSEPLANTS CAN BE DANGEROUS!
It is probably best to avoid all houseplants in areas of your home where your cats will be allowed to freely live, play, eat and sleep. Or, at least have them hanging high or otherwise in areas that your cat cannot get to them. Here is a list of houseplants that you DEFINITELY want to avoid at all costs, as they are potentially harmful or even fatal if they are ingested by your kitty (remember that lists for plants poisonous to cats may vary -- this is because often there is only a certain part of a particular plant that is harmful):
Airplane Plant
Azalea
Caladium
Cyclamen
Dieffenbachia
Dragon Tree
Easter Lily
Foxglove
Jerusalem Cherry
Mistletoe
Mother-in-law%26#039;s Tongue
Philodendron
Poinsettia
Rhododendron
Spider Plant
Yew

I've gotten a Hippeastrum plant as a gift?
What sort of things do I need to know? General maintenance and care, how long do they live, that sort of thing.
I%26#039;ve gotten a Hippeastrum plant as a gift?
The bulbs should be planted in autumn in a mix of equal parts Irish moss peat and perlite or grit, leaving one-third of the bulb showing.
Place the pot in a warm position at an average temperature of about 21°C (70°F), to promote strong root growth. A shelf over a radiator is ideal.
Feeding should start as soon as a shoot develops and be continued weekly until flowering is over.
Once the bulbs are in growth, move them to a well-lit and ventilated position away from draughts. Hippeastrums will continue flowering for longer in cool rooms at about 16°C (60°F).
Water plants as required, usually once or twice a week during winter and spring, more frequently during summer. Spray leaves with mist during the summer to increase the humidity.
Support developing shoots once they reach 30cm (1ft) by tying them to canes.
Once the hippeastrum has flowered, cut off the flower stems at the bulb%26#039;s base but allow the foliage to keep growing for as long as possible. This ensures that the bulb will produce plenty of flowers next year. Once the foliage starts to die back, remove it and store the bulb somewhere cool, dark and dry for six to eight weeks to rest.
Reply:Hippeastrum %26quot;translated is %26quot;Horse Star%26quot; Once it flowers and they have faded, cut the seed head off and let it grow on for another month. Stop watering it and then turn it on its side and store it in a well insulated area, for about 6-8 months. In the late summer or early fall collect it and put the pot back up and water and using diluted fertiliser let it grow on. You will see the leaves starting to grow and might even flower before the leaves get too tall

I got a coffee plant as a gift but im not sure how often to water it? does it need sunlight?
Coffee plants need bright, indirect light. I%26#039;ve had luck having mine in a Southern Window all year round. They also need a thorough watering once a week. (Through=water coming out the bottom and drained from plant 5-10 min after watering.) *You can fertilize if you wish once a month from March through Oct. Do not fertilize from Oct-Feb. as the plant needs a dormant season during the winter.
*This applies to any species of houseplant
I got a coffee plant as a gift but im not sure how often to water it? does it need sunlight?
Normally, the coffee plant is exposed to sunlight quite a bit, seeing that it is from south america. so, water it once a week, since it is from an arrid climate, sunlight would be the best thing to provide for this plant.
Reply:It probably depends on the variety. Coffee is grown in different climates throughout the world.

I repotted it in Miracle Grow potting soil, tried it in different amounts of sun and tried everything from damp to dry soil.
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me what it is and how to keep it from dying! It used to be really full but leaves are constantly falling off.
I received a plant as a gift. I don%26#039;t know what it is. It is dying and I do not know what to do to help it.
Hey. I have the same plant. It is a Radermachera sinica, sometimes labled a Radermachera Danielle or sometimes even Stereospernum suaveveolens. The plant is native to Taiwan, but will tolerate dry air indoors.
My little plant book also says that it likes to be warm, and that in the winter it can%26#039;t get below 50 degrees F. It likes bright light but not the direct sun of the afternoon (too hot). The compost needs to stay moist, but do not waterlog. You don%26#039;t need to mist it, and to repot it in the spring time.
My plant is in regular potting soil, outside in a container on my balcony in Long Beach CA, where it only gets morning sun and reflected sun off another building in the afternoon. It is quite happy and growing well.
Reply:It looks like a coffee plant
Watering: water your plant when the surface of the potting mix gets dry (probably once or twice a week). Do not let your plant sit in water in the saucer. It is best to take the plant to the sink, water it, let it drain and then return to saucer.
Light: put your plant near a bright window (east, south or west facing) or under a fluorescent light. Do not put outside in direct sunlight or the leaves will burn.
Fertilizing: fish or seaweed (organic); or 10:10:10 (inorganic) fertilizer twice a year (in March and September) following directions on the label.
Reply:I could be a young ficus tree
http://www.evergrowing.com/tips/ficustre...
Reply:Try cutting it back, so the roots will receive more nourishment. A sick plant does not need to be producing new growth. It could also be pot-bound and need a larger place to grow. Cutiing back a plant stimulates new growth and re-potting will give the roots more room to grow. make sure the pot you use will allow proper drainage. You also might have root rot. You could also try rooting a cutting in rooting hormone in sand with proper drainage.
Reply:It%26#039;s a beautiful plant and your friend really must have thought a lot of you to buy it . I would bring it to a greenhouse, and they will tell you what it is, and help you solve the problem, it may be the type of heat in your place,or something simple. But better to go to the best source.
Reply:It looks pretty healthy in the pictures. What is happening that makes you think it is dying? Some simple guidelines for houseplants:
Water only when the soil feels dry to the touch
Keep near natural sunlight from a window or door
Turn the pot of the plant 1/4 turn every time you water (this prevents the plant from leaning towards the light source)
Feed with a standard plant food every few weeks
Do not let standing water stay in the pot or saucer
If it wilts, you aren%26#039;t watering enough
If it gets yellow leaves, you are overwatering.
Reply:I would guess umbrella plant. They are popular as gifts. I know they like sunshine. How many times have you repotted it? Perhaps you have damaged the roots?

Reply:You could use a tree that has symbolism you find important (see the link below). Oak for example %26quot;the oak represents power, protection, strength, endurance, triumph, dominion, prosperity, sacrifice, guardian, liberator, success and stability%26quot; (see link below). Or you could pick a fruit tree especially if one of her favorite fruits will grow well in your area.
Reply:You could just have a baby. That would remind you too and it%26#039;s more fun than a tree.
A tree? I mean..it%26#039;s cute but...

My cat is terrified of my new (fake) plant?
Yesterday, my significant other gave me a gorgeous Pier One (fake) house plant as a gift. It is about 7 feet tall. My cat freaked out when she saw it. Now she is terrified (it has been 24 hours) and has been hiding and freaks out whenever she sees it. What can I do? Please help.
My cat is terrified of my new (fake) plant?
She will come around, give it some time. However, try not to move it around just yet because she may get freaked out all over again!
Reply:does she ever go out side?
maybe if she is not use to the outside environment and got out at some point and something scared her/him in the tree? but thats if she is a inside cat.
other then that maybe she is not use to large plants being indoors.
also she will eventually get use to it if she realizes its not their to harm her. Like show her the tree and familarize her with it. by gradually letting her play ( if u didn%26#039;t mind) or check it out on her own time when she get curious enough. Cats are very curious creatures and will tend to explore anything eventually even if their a little scared.
hope i helped!
Reply:I%26#039;m sorry but that%26#039;s funny. My cat%26#039;s freak out when I change trash bags, sorry cant really help.

Other than just waiting a while, here%26#039;s a thought. Does it smell funny? Sometimes plastics and new rugs do for a time. If that%26#039;s the problem, it should dissipate in a few days. Meanwhile, I don%26#039;t think I would push the issue.
Reply:show her by picking her up, taking her paw and having her touch. or you can touch it. she%26#039;ll get use to it.
Reply:Enjoy, that is soo funny! Stupid cat is scared of a fake plant! You have to see the humor in that! Besides, how can the cat be freaked out when it sees said fake plant. It is not like a fake plant, or a live one for that matter, is stalking your cat!
Reply:pick up your cat, and calm her down. then, bring her over to the plant, and show her it. if she starts freaking, put her down. repeat until she is okay with just looking at it. then, let her sniff it or paw at it. you just gotta prove that the plant isn%26#039;t going to attack your cat.
Reply:srry but thats sorta funny.... i suggest that u show it the plan let it touch it and show the cat that the plants not doing any harm

How to take care of a gardenia plant?
I got this indoor gardenia plant as a gift...I LOVE Gardenias...but how do I care for it, there have been a few blooms since I got it
but they never opened up into flowers. is there anything special I can do to help it grow better?
How to take care of a gardenia plant?
They like warmth and humidity. You can spritz it with a water bottle and keep in a warm location. Dont over water.
Good Luck hope this helps.
Reply:You could try to transplant it into a larger pot. This will allow you to check for a %26quot;tap%26quot; root. Many %26quot;gift%26quot; plants say they can be planted outdoors after blooming. Most succumb because they are only in possession of feeder roots. They are genetically engineered not to proliferate. (Makes for more sales, American Greed)

What kind of plant is this?
I received a plant as a gift, and I%26#039;d love to know what it is, so I know how to best take care of it.
It has fairly large purple bottle-brush like flowers. I%26#039;ve done a quick search of the internet, and can%26#039;t seem to find it.
My cats seem to be in love with it. I keep them away from it best I can, but I want to make sure it isn%26#039;t poisonous.

How do you take care of a money tree(plant)?
I recently received a money tree plant as a gift( it is a type of bamboo plant) and i am not exactly sure on how to take care of it. I know it needs indirect sunlight, but how often does it need to be watered? do I just spray the leaves or do I water the whole entire plant? please help!!!!!!
How do you take care of a money tree(plant)?
Hey Michelle,
Do you have the original Money Tree, %26quot;Pachira Aquatica%26quot; or a Jade plant, with the now common name of Money Tree?
I have the Jade Plant. And I follow the directions from the internet - it is doing great. The Jade Plant is not a Bamboo, but a succulent.
Excerpt from Wiki: Commonly known as jade plant, friendship tree or Money Plant, Crassula ovata is a succulent plant that sometimes has small pink or white flowers and is common as a houseplant worldwide. The Jade Plant is also sometimes incorrectly referred to as the money tree; however, the tree Pachira aquatica is the original %26quot;money tree.%26quot;
As succulents, they require a normal watering when the soil is dry in the summer, and very little watering in the winter. Over watering will cause them to lose their leaves (it is easy to identify over watering by the characteristic crinkling look that the fallen leaves have) and eventually the stem will rot away. Though jades can survive over watering, it is best to keep them on a 10 - 20 day cycle in the summer, and even less (up to a month dry) in the winter. Letting the soil dry between waterings is essential for a healthy jade. END WIKI
The other Money tree is the second site.
Reply:I have a huge 1 I water at least once a week
or 2x a week in the summer
it is so big
its on my desk at work and people are just amazed at the size of it
I have an awesome always sunny so cal window seat and this plant just thrives
its about 31/2 feet tall
I think its the %26quot;original%26quot; money tree as there are no flowers just pretty leafs and the trunk is braided.
I asked our %26quot;plant man%26quot; if i should trans plant it and he said %26quot;why ruin something good%26quot;
but imagine if i trans planted it!
it would probably grow another 3 feet.!!

Reply:It needs bright indirect light. Light strong enough that it will cast a shadow. Not enough light and it will drop leaves. Water at least once a week. Better to a dip test with your finger until you are certain how often you should water. Stick your finger in the soil and if the top 3-4 inches feel dry then it%26#039;s okay to water. You Don%26#039;t need to spray the leaves, just add water to the soil.
Good Luck

What's the name of this plant?! PLEASE HELP!!?
this plant was a gift, but its dying i think, some tips of the leaves is turning brown and i water it everyday. Could someone please give me the name of this plant so i can look up on it to see how its suppose to be taken care of. thank you

What%26#039;s the name of this plant?! PLEASE HELP!!?
The plant in question is a Vase plant, common name , or Broamelaid, in the pinapple family. They are easy to grow and tropical. Need warm night temps to flower. Indirect medium light. No temps below 55. Water only in the vase section of the plant not the soil portion. After they flower which is the pink bract showing in the center of the stem, they will die back and send up a new plant call pups. Check it out in any plant encyclopedia, they are literally hundreds of different types sizes and colors in this genus. I started with one years ago and have quite a few from the pups formed by the mother flowering plant each year.
Reply:It is a cultivated bromeliad. These are epiphytic plants -- they do not grow in the ground but on other plants. In the tropics you see them growing on the branches of trees.
You do not water the roots, which are for attachment to the host plant, and not for taking up water and nutrients. You need to water them in the little well in the center. You need to use clean fresh water -- tap water with chlorine is not good for them.
They are quite hard to keep alive for a long time. They need very high humidity, which we do not have in our houses especially in winter. They grow in low-light conditions. Sometimes the central plant will die, but it will shoot out several smaller %26quot;babies%26quot; round the sides.
Reply:It%26#039;s a BROMELAID.In my experience, these will burn in direct sun. I would keep it in a bright location indoors and water the center cup of the plant. I try to avoid watering the roots if grown indoors. You can keep it in the small pot unless it tends to tip over. When the plant starts to die don%26#039;t be discouraged. At this time it will put out pups,or baby plants.
When they are 1/3 as big as the mother plant you can separate them.It will take around a year for them to bloom. Remember only water in the center cup. Don%26#039;t water the roots, because you may rot the plant.Out doors you can water roots once a week. Also always keep water in the cup. Always. It sure is a fine specimen. Good luck
Reply:i don%26#039;t know the name of your plant .but i do know your not supposed to be watering it everyday that%26#039;s why your leaves are turning brown you put your finger in the soil about 1/2 inch if the soil is moist then do not water if the soil is very dry then you water.your watering your plant to much your drownding it.
Reply:Beautiful blooming mature Bromeliad in flower. You should be seeing %26quot;pups%26quot; around the base of it soon. Bromie%26#039;s habbit is to bloom, set pups, die. Leave or transplant the pups, water in the funnel created by their leaves, they%26#039;ll bloom, set pups, and die. That%26#039;s their life cycle.
Don%26#039;t water daily - root rot.
Reply:It looks like a bromelid. If it is, they should be watered by pouring water into the %26quot;cup%26quot; and not into the soil since it is a native of south american rainforests and used to lots of rainfall.
Reply:that is a bromeliad and they cannot be waterered every day. water once every 4 days unless the soil is very very dry. it can take drought. dont water for about a week and let it dry out

Help with identifying a flowering plant?
I received a plant as a gift. It has large, rubbery green leaves with curvy-serrated leaves (oval shaped, pointed at the end) and long-stemmed clusters of small orange flowers. Does anyone know what sort of plant this might be, and possibly some care guidelines?
Help with identifying a flowering plant?
The photo you put up is of a kalanchoe (sp?). Just let it dry out in between waterings and when you do water, water throughly. Keep it in a sunny spot in the house.
It should keep blooming for you for quite a while.
Reply:Is it possible for you to get a picture of the plant?
Reply:Hard to tell with just a description. It can be lots of different things.
Reply:no i dont know
Reply:With the thick rubbery leaves and clusters of orange flowers it sounds like a kalanchoe. here is a picture and growing conditions. They are very long lived, I have one that was destined for destruction over 10 years ago. It still blooms for me each late winter and throughout the summer. Good luck and I hope this helps. http://www.flowersgrowing.com/kalanchoe/

Calibrichoa or Million bells is a fabulos plant used as a filler or a spiller in containers, Also it has been used as edging plantings on raised flower beds, It also makes a beautiful hanging Basket. Not knowing where u live I cannot say it will hold on for more than one year but here where I live I have folks coming into the nursery all the time telling me their million bell survival stories. LOL.
Their culture is pretty simple, Water when dry and feed regularly. You can pinch to promote a bushire plant, but it%26#039;s self branching habit makes this fairly unnecessary. The plants and flowers hold up to a remarkable amount of rain, with little damage, it even may helpp deadhead. Also a unnecessary step.
You have recieved one of the best plants for someone with a minimum of plant knowledge, go forth and be beautiful

Reply:Looks like maybe mandevilla. Water it throughly (%26#039;til it drains through) when the soil starts to get dry. Don%26#039;t overwater. As it gets bigger, you may want to re-pot it and let it climb over your ironwork.
Reply:Go to Lowes or Home Depot and get an Aqua Globe. You fill it with water, stick it in the dirt and water is released from the globe only when the plan needs it.
Reply:Rule of thumb...keep moist..never let it dry out and don%26#039;t soak it.

Help with my Calandiva plant?
Hi, about a year and a half ago I recieved a Calandiva plant as a gift. At that point, it had blooms which eventually died. Once they were gone, the leaves died off and new growth began. The new growth has been noticably vine like. However, even though the new %26quot;vines%26quot; looked hearty however very sparse, I then noticed that the soil had a whitish appearance, and that some of the older leaves had some white spots on them. I went to clear out some old foliage that was laying in the pot, and the just by a slight touch the new growth just fell off. Two big long growths that were bright and green detached and fell off. I don%26#039;t know if they were growing too heavy for itself or what. I%26#039;m desperately looking for some help with this plant. If anyone has any advice for me, it would be appreciated. By the way, I usually keep it on the dry side, as per the plants indicated instructions.
Thank you in advance.
Help with my Calandiva plant?
Take the pieces that fell off and put them in a clear container of water. You should see roots in a week. Then you can pot it. The leaves will root on moist potting soil.
%26quot;White stuff%26quot; could be powdery mildew, caused by lack of air circulation. control with Spectracide 3 in 1 spray. Could also be mealy bugs - same spray. stinks, but works. ..
Have red, orange, yellow, and one unknown (no blooms yet) color, want cuttings? good luck

%26quot;Calandiva® needs the same care as a standard Kalanchoë: a sunny position kept moist and fed once every three weeks. In summer, it will also thrive in the garden or in large pots/containers on a sunny balcony or patio. The plant flowers for at least six weeks and will flower even longer when planted outside.%26quot;

Shamrock plant?
I just got a shamrock plant as a gift. Can I repot this plant from the plastic store container it came in, even though it is flowering?
Shamrock plant?
A shamrock plant is actually oxalis. Oxalis regnellii atropurpurea are propagated by the division of the bulbs. The key is to wait until the bulbs are at the end of a dormant cycle. Then take them out of the pot, and remove the small side bulbs. Replant these in shamrock compost just under the surface of the soil and water well. If allowed to just be put in a flowerbed, they become invasive and are considered like a weed.
Reply:Yes,and if you need a ground cover in a space that grows very little it is a good plant for that,doesn%26#039;t get very tall and will cover and spread by itself with very little or no attention except water from time to time.

Reply:I just got one as a gift too! lol

Jasmine plant won't bloom?
I received a Jasmine plant as a gift in April. It was in bloom and stayed in bloom until the middle of May. All all of the petals fell off and none grew back, although the card says that it stays in full bloom January through August. Why is this? Does the plant require pruning? I can%26#039;t seem to get a straight answer out of anyone. Thanks!
Jasmine plant won%26#039;t bloom?
what type of jasmine. There are several different varieties out there. I grow the confederate star jasmine and maid of orleans jasmine. These types go thru cycles where they will bloom for awhile and then just grow. Mine usually bloom a couple of times in the spring and maybe one more time before winter comes in the early fall. If it looks really overgrown you can trim it and that might help. It could also be from too much or too little water. But my types of jasmine have never been in bloom for that long of a period usually they bloom for about a month and then they will grow for awhile and bloom again after a couple of months. Check out davesgarden.com and do a plant search for jasmine. it will bring up the different types of jasmine with pictures so you can compare it to your plant to determine what type of jasmine you have. Here is a link hopefully it will help you out.

When to Plant Mums in Kansas?
Mums are cold hardy. It will do well inside or outside. I would keep it outside and when the temperature falls below freezing I would bring it inside. My neighbor has Mums in her garden and they just starting blooming last week! BTW - I live next door in Missouri.
Reply:Mums are cold hardy perennials which means they will come back year after year. Yu can plant it now but mulch it very very well. If will die back when it frezzes but come back the next spring

What kind of plant is in this picture??????
We received this plant as a gift from a customer a long long time ago. Im surprised its still somewhat alive, considering the fact that we rerely watered it. When we first got this plant it had red leaves or shafts coming up in the middle of all the green ones it was really pretty. This plant also doesnt have any kind of stems, it seems the leaves grow directly out of the dirt. But now its just greenish yellowish and doesnt glow as much. I want to know what kind of plant it is and what is proper way to water, fertilize, and care for it. does it need a lot of sunlight or not as much. Please help me out, the thought of the customer returning to see this pathetic thing staring back at her saddens me.

Take your plant out of the pot it is in a get a pot one size larger and put it in there.
If the roots are swirled around the dirt ball, shake the dirt off and try to straighten the without breaking them.
Set the pot in your sink and rinse the soil and roots with lukewarm tap water and set in a warm window or outside in partial shade for a few days if above 50 degrees.
move into sun after that time. Water every three days with about a cup of water if the root ball is about 6-8 in in diameter.
feed it some miracle grow plant food as recommended on the package.
This is general plant advice since I cannot tell what the plant is.

What is this plant called, and can I plant it outdoors?
I received a plant as a gift in a small pot. It is growing very nicely. It has three triangle shaped leaves at the very end of each thin stalk (the stalk looks like a raw beansprout). The three triangle leaves are a deep, dark purple, and they fold up at night like they are praying. I like this plant, I wonder if I can plant it outdoors or should I just get a larger pot? I have NO idea what it is!!!!
What is this plant called, and can I plant it outdoors?
Here is a plant called Purple Oxalis that sounds very much like your description.

Reply:House plant and sounds like a prayer plant.
Reply:I would suggest taking a picture of this pretty plant and then take the picture to a nursery to find out what it is and how to care for it.
Several plants like to be root bound, you might not have to put this into a larger pot.
Reply:It sounds like it may be oxalis. Check out the website below.
Reply:It could be a prayer plant. They close up at night. Take it to a local garden shop and ask them if it can be planted outside. Most indoor plants can%26#039;t be planted outdoors unless they grow there naturally. Good luck!

what should i do to keep it nice.i kepat plant near the window to get sunlight but dont know what happend.plz help me.
I have got a rose indoor plant as a gift but as it came in to my house buds gone down and flowersnotblooming?
Too much water.....or not enough....Usually we kill our plants with too much water...and to know is to uproot it and check the roots for mold....white stuff on the roots...growing. If that is the problem repot it again....in new dry (right from the bag) potting soil....Check for Rose Food at the local nursery....they need special food...Miracle grow is great....If you can plant it outside ....I would do that....Roses need direct sunlight for nearly all day.....

What kind of plant is best as housewarming gift?
my father wants to buy his new thing a housewarming gift. she likes plants so he wants to get her a plant. what kind is best as housewarming?
What kind of plant is best as housewarming gift?
Step 1:
Give the Living It may sound generic, but giving a plant as a house warming gift is generally a good idea. People typically love plants and they are decorative so they serve a dual purpose. The key to selecting the right plant to give, depends solely on how well you know the recipient. If they have a green thumb, by all means get something exotic. However, if they don%26#039;t have a green thumb or you don%26#039;t know if they are good with plants select something heart and basic. Some great plant ideas for a house warming gift would be bamboo, bonsai, money trees, mini herb gardens or a dried wreath for their new front door.
Step 2:
Go Personal Giving any gift that is personalized is a great idea. Many things can be inscribed or printed with someone%26#039;s name now and people usually love the thought put in to a gift like this. Of course you have standard personalized items like plaques and signs, but unless you know for sure they will want to hang them steer clear of these items. Seeking out personalized items that are more useful is better. Getting things that can be personalized, yet useful is really the way to go. Many companies make useful items that can be personalized like door mats, cups, coasters, aprons and stationary. Be creative and check the Internet you will surprised at what you can find.
Step 3:
Unique Needs Every now and then we come upon a situation that is more unique and it can lend to a more creative gift giving opportunity. For instance, a single woman has purchased her own home, possibly perfect gift%26quot;%26gt;the perfect gift for her might be a basic tool kit. Perhaps your child is flying the nest for the first time, consider a small appliance like a one cup coffee maker or small toaster oven. Maybe your parents have retired and are scaling down their home, painting of their original home may be the perfect idea. Look for an individual need and read between the lines, you may find the perfect gift.
Step 4:
Of course, if all else fails giving a gift card can work. You can select a gift card from a store you know they like or you can get one from a general department store. To broaden there capabilities for use you can also get a Visa or Mastercard gift card they can use anywhere.
Reply:I personally think orchids are just gorgeous and there are so many beautiful varieties to choose from.
Reply:The asian %26quot;money plant%26quot; is great because it is nearly impossible to kill and it just thrives with minimal effort. That is why they call it the %26quot;money%26quot; plant, because they wish earning money was that easy, lol.
It is a green leafy plant with a palm shaped five leaves thing on each branch. It is often sold in an asian inspired pot.
Reply:How about an aloe plant. I have one. They are so easy to take care of and if you ever have a scratch or burn, you just cut the leaf in half for the healing aloe.
Reply:Thing was funny....I thought you didn%26#039;t like her or something!!!
A Spider plant, or any that doesn%26#039;t need a lot of light.
Reply:I love those %26quot;Lucky bamboo%26quot; plants--and they come is some pretty cool planters. I had this one that was braided, and it looked very cool! They are also very easy to take care of as well.
Also, if she likes fish, you can get a large vase, put rocks (or colored marbles) on the bottom, leaving a bit of room for a beta fish to swim in. Place the bamboo in the rocks, and fill with water. Then get a pretty beta fish and voila!
Reply:any bonsaied plant or perhaps a feng shui bonsai bamboo plant??

Why is my plant dying? (I have a picture) http://i141.photobucket.com/al...
This picture shows a peace lily which I have had for 4 years now. About one year ago it started this very slow dying. It started browning on the tips of the oldest leaves and the browning continues until covers the whole leaf. It is to the point now where it is starting on new leafs just as they start to uncurl in their newness. I think this slow death can%26#039;t last much longer and the plant has some sentimental value to me. Please offer any experties, but please don%26#039;t just tell me to take it to a nursery. If I get no responses that is what I will do take it to a plant store.
A little more history, as I said I received this plant as gift 4 years ago and it grew very well I put it into a large pot and some neighbor kids broke the pot and I found the plant in the lawn while the root ball was still moist, so I split it into two plants. Because I didn%26#039;t have another pot big enough on hand. They both did fine for a while and the other plant has already died. I don%26#039;t think it was same death.
Why is my plant dying? (I have a picture) http://i141.photobucket.com/al...
First of all, transplant it into a smaller pot, buy a good potting soil and throw that soil out. The soil it%26#039;s in has too much vermiculite or perlite (the white stuff). When you take it out of the soil, look at the roots, cut off any that are shrivled or look rotted before repotting. Keep the soil evenly moist (not wet and don%26#039;t let it completely dry out) and hopefully it will take hold again. Poor guy looks rough, good luck.
Reply:You need to repot the plant and seperate it as well, use new potting mix and do this in the afternoon when it is a bit cooler, if you get a product called miracle grow over there use this to water the repotted plants with to give them a good start. Good Luck.
Reply:How much water are you giving this plant? Often times the leaves will do this if they are watered too much. When you water it, can the water run completely through the soil and exit out the bottom of the pot?

Plant as a gift?
i am looking to buy a garden plant as a gift for a keen lady gardener.
would like to get something that will thrive in a british garden and maybe a bit out of the ordinary.
i have no gardening experience past pot plants so any ideas greatfully accepted.
Plant as a gift?
A lush hosta or a %26#039;%26#039;sweet william%26#039;%26#039; or a coreopsis. or while you are shopping do look at house plants. If you want to go simple african violets are opoular but they are house plants.I she loves gardening then don%26#039;t worry anything %26#039;%26#039;GREEN%26#039;%26#039; would make her happy........plant as a gift is an awesome idea!!!
Reply:If she%26#039;s an avid gardener, she may not want a permanent plant as a gift. She probably has her own plans for her landscape. Try a hanging basket, like a fuscia, instead.
Reply:Give her a Camelia. Its like a rose bush. And you can get it in red or pink.It blooms in the spring. And it can be in a pot.Or in the ground.

I need to know the law concerning selling home made products, herbs, plants gifts etc?
since nothing is medical or food related, nothing really past a basic business license should be needed. that and proper tax and paperwork kept.
really only problem I see is...make sure the items you are selling can be resold. make sure no copyright is on them to resell.

Whats the best plant gift you can give to some one?
Not one thats two flowery one that lasts long is native to Britian and is very naturel in its growing ways and is used as a garden plant.
Whats the best plant gift you can give to some one?
If would suggest an English ivy..............
They don%26#039;t flower - can be grown inside or out and grow very natural........ can be planted in flower beds or in hanging pots.
They are a very rich looking green.
Reply:Tulips are the best
. I could give you some scientific and equatorial BS but really when it comes down too it, its quite subjective. It would be the plant that either means something to you or a plant you like. Because a gift from the heart is the best gift to give.
