What is this plant called, and can I plant it outdoors?

I received a plant as a gift in a small pot. It is growing very nicely. It has three triangle shaped leaves at the very end of each thin stalk (the stalk looks like a raw beansprout). The three triangle leaves are a deep, dark purple, and they fold up at night like they are praying. I like this plant, I wonder if I can plant it outdoors or should I just get a larger pot? I have NO idea what it is!!!!

Here is a plant called Purple Oxalis that sounds very much like your description.

Reply:House plant and sounds like a prayer plant.
Reply:I would suggest taking a picture of this pretty plant and then take the picture to a nursery to find out what it is and how to care for it.

Several plants like to be root bound, you might not have to put this into a larger pot.
Reply:It sounds like it may be oxalis. Check out the website below.
Reply:It could be a prayer plant. They close up at night. Take it to a local garden shop and ask them if it can be planted outside. Most indoor plants can%26#039;t be planted outdoors unless they grow there naturally. Good luck!
