What kind of plant is this?

I received a plant as a gift, and I%26#039;d love to know what it is, so I know how to best take care of it.


It has fairly large purple bottle-brush like flowers. I%26#039;ve done a quick search of the internet, and can%26#039;t seem to find it.


My cats seem to be in love with it. I keep them away from it best I can, but I want to make sure it isn%26#039;t poisonous.

What kind of plant is this?
Your plant could be a Hebe plant which can be either variegated or a dark green in color with a purple flower resembling a bottle brush.
