Jasmine plant won't bloom?

I received a Jasmine plant as a gift in April. It was in bloom and stayed in bloom until the middle of May. All all of the petals fell off and none grew back, although the card says that it stays in full bloom January through August. Why is this? Does the plant require pruning? I can%26#039;t seem to get a straight answer out of anyone. Thanks!

what type of jasmine. There are several different varieties out there. I grow the confederate star jasmine and maid of orleans jasmine. These types go thru cycles where they will bloom for awhile and then just grow. Mine usually bloom a couple of times in the spring and maybe one more time before winter comes in the early fall. If it looks really overgrown you can trim it and that might help. It could also be from too much or too little water. But my types of jasmine have never been in bloom for that long of a period usually they bloom for about a month and then they will grow for awhile and bloom again after a couple of months. Check out davesgarden.com and do a plant search for jasmine. it will bring up the different types of jasmine with pictures so you can compare it to your plant to determine what type of jasmine you have. Here is a link hopefully it will help you out.
